In 1955, Missionary Don White under sponsorship of Grace Baptist Church of Middletown, Ohio, went to Anchorage, Alaska, to start a new church. In January, 1956, that church was organized as Bible Baptist Church of Anchorage.

One of the men of that church was sent by the U.S. Air Force to Grand Forks, North Dakota. Upon arrival, this man- Sergeant Bruce Milene- contacted his Pastor, Don White in Alaska and reported that there was no Scriptural Baptist church in the Grand Forks, North Dakota/East Grand Forks, Minnesota area. Brother White then told Brother Milene to start one. Brother White and Missionary Jim Jenkins came to Grand Forks and helped in the beginning of the new church, which was named Bible Baptist Church.

The church’s first building was located at 813 South 11th Street in Grand Forks. Brother Jenkins helped the new church in its organization, in February of 1966.
One month later, the church issued a call to Gordon Silcox, a native of Minnesota who had previously pastored churches in Iowa and Oklahoma, to become the first permanent pastor of this new church. Brother Silcox arrived the first week of April, 1966, and served as pastor of Bible Baptist Church until June, 1990. During his pastorate, over seventy men surrendered to preach the Gospel. A Bible college training program- Northland Baptist Bible Institute- was begun, and during the 24-year pastorate of Pastor Silcox, DD, LLD, many churches were started and organized out of Bible Baptist Church.

In June, 1990, Pastor Silcox resigned as pastor of BBC- retiring from the pastorate- and the church called Brother Mike Custer, long-time Associate- and son-in-law- of Brother Silcox, to be its new pastor. Since then, the church has continued to have young men called, trained, and sent out to preach the gospel, and has started new churches and mission works in Wahpeton, ND, The Pas, Manitoba, CAN, Fishkill, NY, and the Republic of South Africa.

In April, 1997, the church properties were flooded and destroyed by Red River of the North. By November, 1999, Bible Baptist Church had rebuilt and is still strong and committed to fulfilling the Great Commission locally, and around the world.
